Adelaide time next to everyone else's
South Australia runs on Australian Central time, half an hour behind the eastern states' standard time, and changes its clocks on the same dates as NSW and Victoria: the first Sundays of October and April. Here's how that lines up.
| Early April to early October | Early October to early April | |
|---|---|---|
| Perth, where OP Digital is | 1.5 hours behind | 2.5 hours behind |
| Brisbane | 30 minutes ahead | 30 minutes behind |
| Sydney and Melbourne | 30 minutes ahead | 30 minutes ahead |
| Darwin | Same time | 1 hour behind |
What the half-hour means for your bookings
Most of this is set once when we build it, and then you don't have to think about it again.
- We set everything to Adelaide time specifically. Darwin is on Central time too but doesn't change its clocks, so the wrong setting would put summer bookings an hour out.
- Interstate callers hear times in Adelaide time. If you get a lot of them, we add a line so it says "Adelaide time" when it confirms a booking.
- Adelaide shares the 08 area code with Perth, though not the clock. Keep your 08 number or mobile and divert it to the receptionist, and the caller's own number still comes through.
- Set-up calls with us are booked in your business hours, and then we build it from Perth.
Heatwave calls
Adelaide summers bring runs of very hot days, and for some businesses that's when the urgent calls come. Here's how the receptionist handles them.
Stock at risk
Cool rooms, display fridges and freezers work hardest in the heat. It asks what temperature is showing and whether stock has been moved, and marks the job urgent.
Cooling that's quit
An evaporative or split system that stopped mid-afternoon. It asks the brand, what the unit is doing and, if it's on your list, whether anyone vulnerable is at home.
Early starts, early finishes
On hot days plenty of businesses start at first light and knock off early. The receptionist keeps answering after you've stopped, and books only into the hours you've opened.
Messages for the morning
Calls you'd rather handle yourself are taken as messages with the details written down, so the first thing you read next day is a list, not a voicemail queue.
Business or home: the opening question
A café with a failing cool room and a household with a noisy fridge are different jobs with different urgency. So the opening question is business or home, and each gets its own set of questions: trading hours and stock for a business, access and pets for a house.
Commercial jobs can be marked urgent and sent to one inbox, home jobs to another. If you only do commercial work, it tells home callers politely and takes their details in case you want to refer them on.
What it costs
From A$499 a month, set up and looked after by us. Every system starts with a 14-day free trial.
Card required. 14-day free trial, then $499/mo from day 15. No setup fee. No lock-in contract; cancel any time. Cancel before the trial ends and pay nothing.
Questions owners ask
Will it book on Adelaide time with the half-hour difference?
Yes. We build it on the Adelaide time zone, which carries the half-hour and the summer change, so callers hear the same times you see in your calendar.
Do you have someone in Adelaide?
No. We work from Perth, an hour and a half behind you in winter and two and a half in summer. We set up Adelaide businesses remotely and book calls in your hours.
Can it handle commercial and home callers differently?
Yes. It asks which one they are first, then follows a separate set of questions for each. Every summary says which kind of job it is, and the two kinds can go to different people.
What happens if an urgent callout comes in overnight?
It answers, asks your questions and books the next free time, with URGENT at the top of your email. If you run an after-hours roster, it can be set up to put urgent calls straight through to whoever is on call, and we test that with you on a real call before launch.
Does it work for businesses outside metro Adelaide?
Yes. Where you're based makes no difference to how it answers, so a business in the Adelaide Hills, the Barossa or the Fleurieu is set up the same way. Tell us the areas you cover and it checks each caller's location against them.
