The best AI receptionists in Australia (2026)

OP Digital wrote this list, and we've put ourselves first. That's a bias, so we're stating it up front along with our reasons. After that come eight other providers, compared on what their own websites say, and the questions worth asking any of them, us included.

Example call: a price question it can't answer, handled straight

Your customer rings your business number.

Example call to Bluegum Locksmiths, a fictional business. Your customer, Priya, rings your business number about: Change locks, 3 doors, Sandy Bay TAS. Your AI receptionist answers on the first ring, asks how many doors, the address and a time that suits, and it notes the price question for the locksmith, then books Wednesday 1:00pm and reads it back. Priya gets a text: Hi Priya, Bluegum Locksmiths has you booked for Wednesday at 1:00pm at 22 Churchill Ave, Sandy Bay. The locksmith will give you a price before starting. You get an email: New booking: Priya, 0491 570 149. Change locks on 3 doors (1 deadlock), just moved in. 22 Churchill Ave, Sandy Bay TAS. Wed 1:00pm. Asked about price: quote on site before starting.

How to choose, whichever one you pick

Four questions to put to any provider. The answers tell you more than a ranking can.

  • What happens to a call it can't handle? Find out whether it takes a message, books a callback or transfers, and test that path yourself before you sign.
  • Who changes the script when your business changes? New hours, a new service or a price rise has to reach the receptionist. Ask who makes the change, how fast, and whether it costs extra.
  • What does a cap cost you? Plans sized by minutes, calls or conversations charge for extra use. Take your busiest month, work it out at the overage rate and compare that total, not the headline price.

How we put this list together

We read each provider's own website on 13 October 2026 and used only what it says about itself. Where a site gives no price, we say that rather than repeat a figure from somewhere else. Who each one suits is our reading of how the provider describes its own plans.

If you run one of these companies and something here is out of date, tell us through our contact page and we'll correct it.

What it costs

From A$499 a month, set up and looked after by us. Every system starts with a 14-day free trial.

Card required. 14-day free trial, then $499/mo from day 15. No setup fee. No lock-in contract; cancel any time. Cancel before the trial ends and pay nothing.

Questions owners ask

Which AI receptionist is best in Australia?

It depends on how many calls you get and how much you want done for you. We rank ourselves first because we set it up, look after it and don't cap inbound calls. If you take few calls and want the lowest monthly price, a plan sized by minutes or conversations may suit you better.

How much does an AI receptionist cost in Australia?

Going by the providers' own pricing pages, checked 13 October 2026, most entry plans sit between $49 and $149 a month, with an allowance of 50 to 100 minutes, calls or conversations, and some add a setup fee. Ours is from A$499 a month, with unlimited inbound calls.

Is a minute cap or a call cap better?

Neither is better on its own. A minute allowance costs more when calls run long; a call allowance counts each call, and at least one provider counts every 10 minutes as a separate call unit. Work out your busiest month under each and compare the totals.

Are these prices with or without GST?

Where a provider's site says ex GST or plus GST, the table says so too. Where a site doesn't say, we haven't guessed.

Why isn't my provider on this list?

We kept it to companies selling AI receptionists to Australian businesses whose own websites we could check on the day. If we've missed one worth comparing, tell us and we'll look at it.
