What changes the price of a website?
Mostly four things: how many pages it has, any custom features, who writes the words and supplies the photos, and what it has to connect to.
- Number of pages. Each page is designed, written for and tested, so more pages cost more. Ours covers up to 5 core pages, such as home, services, about, your work and contact.
- Custom features. An online shop, a customer portal, a large catalogue or anything built from scratch is its own piece of work. We quote those separately so the standard price stays the standard price.
- Words and photos. Someone has to write about your services and show your work. We build from the content you send us, and copy structure and cleanup is included, so you are not paying for a copywriter to start from nothing.
- Connections to other systems. Enquiry forms, analytics and Search Console are part of the build. Linking the site to a booking system, a CRM or other software is scoped and priced before any work starts.
What are the ongoing costs?
Hosting and care is optional at A$79 a month, and a domain name has its own registration fee, paid to a registrar.
Care covers hosting, maintenance and 2 changes a month. Without it, changes are charged separately and you can arrange your own hosting.
For a .au domain, auDA sets the wholesale price. Its pricing page lists “com.au: AUD$9.50” a year, and notes that “Wholesale prices are exclusive of GST.” The price you pay is set by whoever sells you the name: registrars and resellers “set their own retail price for .au domain names available to the public.”
Where we register a domain for you, it is in your name, and we transfer it to you on request at no charge. Our terms say so in writing.
How long does it take to build?
Live within 7 business days from the day we have your payment, content and domain access, or the build is free.
The build runs in four steps: we map the job, build the real site, review it with you over two focused revision rounds, then connect the domain, forms, analytics and search foundations and test the live site.
WA Machine Services went from no proper site to live in two days. Read the WA Machine Services case study.
Do I own the website?
Yes, once the one-off build fee is paid, the completed website is yours.
If you use our optional care plan and later cancel it, you keep the website. You can stay hosted with us, or take your site files and your domain and host it anywhere you like.
What should a service business website do?
Make the next decision easier: a visitor should understand what you do, trust that you can deliver it and know exactly what to do next.
Most sites get the basics right, and the jobs are lost at the edges. When we measured the homepages of 1,529 Perth trade websites, this is what we found:
- 19.3% fail on a phone (295 of 1,529)
- 22.7% take 4 seconds or more to load (347 of 1,529)
- 46.2% have no enquiry form on first load (707 of 1,529)
